Picking Paint Colors....

It's looking like tomorrow is going to be "the day" when Eddie Dale helps me get my closet in shape by adding some new shelving.  The forecast is calling for a cold, wintery weekend - perfect for a project indoors.  So, this evening - or early in the morning, depending on how I manage to get my rear in gear - I will be emptying one side of my closet.  Completely emptying.....

My plan calls for going through every single item and weeding out before I put anything back in.  Ambitious, I know!  But, the organizing gurus tell us that if it hasn't been worn in the past year, it really must go.  And, so, I am setting my sights on putting back less than I take out.  We shall see how I do on that.....

Now, if I could just settle on the shade of "white" I want to paint the shelf we are going to build for the kitchen/dining area.....

There about a million choices when it comes to "white" and I am sure struggling with this decision.  Look at all these paint chips I picked up the other day when trying to decide what shade to paint the corner hutch and soon-to-be-constructed shelf....

Okay, I know there are some "khaki" shades in there....not white, at all....but so very pretty (perhaps I can work that color in somewhere else in the house???)

I have narrowed it down to these choices.......

Looking at this photo, I can see that "cottage linen" is nearly the exact same shade this piece was already painted....

As you can see, the green on the walls in this room is a rather "cool" color, with a bit of a gray undertone.  I love this peaceful shade, but want to avoid getting this room too gray and cool.  I'm really leaning towards the clean, neutral white of "wedding bells" (top left corner).  What do you think???

A Picture Perfect COLOR for the Kitchen!!!

Color is going up in the dining area....and I couldn't be more thrilled!!!!

Yesterday was a designated work day in the kitchen/dining area ~ at least for me.  Eddie was scheduled to work from 2 pm to 11 pm, so it was going to be up to me to load the kitchen and get started on the painting..  Oh, yeah, I had big plans to get tons accomplished. 

But, I found lots of little things to sidetrack me yesterday morning.  I just couldn't get started....I had to run to the post office, I had to check Facebook, I had to have another cuppa coffee.  You know what I mean???

Finally, probably in an effort to squelch my ongoing procrastination, Eddie started bringing boxes in from the garage a couple of hours before he had to be at work.  This kinda "forced" me to get in there and start loading in the cabinets ~ something that had to be done prior to painting.  (And let me just say "Thank you, sweetie" for getting me started!)

Mom dropped by shortly after he left for work and jumped right in to help.  I'm so grateful for her amazing energy and talent for organizing.  Not only did she help me unpack boxes and put things away, she flattened boxes, swept the entire area (the floor was getting a little "crunchy" underfoot) and even found time to sweep the entire back patio and feed cookies to the dogs. 

I admit, we had to take a couple of breaks (to run to Rick & Carolyn's drive-thru for an icy cherry Pepsi and dinner off the dollar menu at McDonalds), but we finally got to the painting part of the day.  And let me just tell you this ~ Mom is a fabulous painter!!! 

Just hand this lady a brush and she's off to the races!!!

We were loving the color before it dried ~ even with just one coat over the primer.  While we painted, we started tossing out ideas for accessories and decorating.  It ended up being so much fun that we looked up and it was nearly time for Eddie to be home from work! 

All in all, it was a very productive day and I'm actually looking forward to getting back in there today and getting a second coat on the walls and starting on the trim.

Let the Countdown Begin!!!

Counting down...11 days until we close on our little cottage in Abilene and begin the move! Literally, we are beginning the move on January 28th, the day we close. We take our first load down that morning. Should be a fun day, huh? But our reward will be sleeping that night in our new home.

Our place in the country here is looking pretty "nekkid" since we've started packing. Most of the pictures and wall hangings are down now.


But, seeing this cleared expanse of wall reminds me how much I love this color - Laura Ashley Olive 4.

The bookcase and hutch are bare.


Boxes are stacking up, mostly in the Texas Room.


We have cleaned out, purged and organized.


We have accomplished so much this weekend and Eddie Dale is looking pretty proud of himself! We have the cellar cleared and ready to load. We filled every box we could put our hands on. We filled the back of our F250 with another load of trash and found many items to donate to local charities.

And we have a lot of hard work ahead of us when we arrive in Abilene. There is soooooo much to be done at our new home - painting, flooring, new ceiling fans and light fixtures, decorating...I'm tired just thinking about it.

Never mind that the move itself is daunting! I'm having trouble comprehending just how much stuff two people can own! And we're moving ourselves roughly 268 miles down the road. (God bless U-Haul!!!)

We're experiencing so many emotions, truly a mixed bag! It's exhausting to prepare for the move; it's sad to see the bare walls; it's exhilarating to see all the crap that is finding its way out of the house.

But, above all, it is exciting to be preparing to go home!
